Maggie Greene and Traci Pryde of Thrift+Fit+Fix will host the first event in a 4-part series that focuses on maximizing use and extending the life of your beloved garments!
Each event in this series will feature a specific garment mending technique or theme, and a personal styling component.
*Important update: all MENDING appointments for the July 15th event are FULL!
We will do our best to accommodate repair requests for everyone who attends the event. If we are unable to get to your mending/repair project during the event, Traci will take your contact information and follow-up with you about your project after the event.
Want to work with Maggie to take your measurements and get personal styling advice? Come to the store anytime between 1 and 5pm on Saturday, July 15th and ask for Maggie. No appointment necessary! First come, first served. Limit 30 minutes per person.
MENDING: Mend a Garment with Traci Pryde
Bring in your damaged garment, and Traci will work her magic! Traci will provide complimentary (no-cost) mending/repair and alterations forfolks during this event.
Bring your beloved garment to the event. Traci will give it a once-over, complete smaller repairs or alterations, and you’ll walk out of the store with a garment that’s ready to be worn.
If the repair or alteration you bring is more extensive, Traci will quote you a price and if you decide to move forward she will take the garment back to her fully-equipped studio, and then bring it back to Two Big Blondes for you to pick up. If you aren't sure, bring your project and Traci will discuss the possibilities with you.
The following is a list (not exhaustive) of things Traci can repair or alter on the spot:
- Denim darning (small blowouts/thread bare areas)
- Popped seams in clothing (hems or side seams that have popped the thread and have a hole)
- Pants and shorts hemming
- Pencil skirt hems (without lining)
- Replacing buttons
Things that will require more time:
- Fuller hems on dresses
- Zipper replacement
- Alterations or hemming of lined garments
- Hemming full skirts
- Extensive denim darning (larger holes and blowouts)
How it works:
- Traci will be demonstrating mending and alterations on the clothing YOU bring in to Two Big Blondes.
- She will look over your garment to determine the complexity of the repair/alteration.
- Traci will either fix it on the spot, or give you an estimate for more time-consuming repairs.
- YOU get your stuff fixed up!
A minimum $5 donation to SWAF, per person, is suggested for folks who choose to participate in this activity.
PERSONAL STYLING: Stump the Stylist with Maggie Greene
Bring in your toughest-to-style garments. Get ideas for multiple ways to wear them!
You know those pieces in your closet that you absolutely love but rarely (if ever) wear? Those unique items that you can't seem to figure out what to wear them with?
- Accessories: jewelry, belts, hats, scarves
- Clothing: tops, bottoms, jumpsuits, dresses, jackets, vests, sweaters
- Statement shoes
The possibilities are endless!
Professional personal stylist and strategic thrifting expert Maggie Greene AKA "Your Fairy Godthrifter" will wrack her creative brain to curate multiple styling options around the wearable garment or accessory* of your choice, using items found around the store!
How it works:
Maggie will be onsite and available to spend up to 30 minutes with you, at no cost.
In that time you will share your garment or accessory and tell her about your style.
She will also take your physical measurements to determine fit/size.
After that, she'll come up with as many styling options as she can, discuss them with you, and then demonstrate those outfit combinations with in-store inventory so you can see the potential in real-time, on the fly!
If you like what you see, you can purchase the companion pieces to take home: mention Maggie at the register to ensure 25% of your purchase goes to SWAF.
*Includes formal wear; excludes specialty garments like costumes, armor, and PPE
